Maxine Sophia (Schult) Ehlers, 92, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton, IA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, 10:30 am, at Peace Church, Bennett, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am until the start of the service at 10:30 am. There will be a luncheon at the church following the funeral. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Maxine was born on Wednesday, May 15, 1929 in New Liberty, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry F. and Elsie D. (Heuer) Schult. Maxine attended school at Liberty #7 and on August 2, 1947 she was married to Kenneth Ehlers in Davenport, Iowa. Maxine was co-owner and operator of the family farm with her husband, Kenneth, and moved to Tipton in 1962. Maxine was a long-time member of the Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett, a member of the Ladies’ Tea at Cedar Manor (which she helped organize), Farm Bureau, Bennett Garden Club, Unity Women’s Club of Durant, volunteered for many projects at her church and was a past member of the Women of the Moose. Maxine was known for her photography and was affectionately called “flash”. She enjoyed making “Maxine’s” peanut brittle for the church auction, enjoyed sewing and wood crafts that family and friends benefited from. She enjoyed adventures big and small from trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas to fish fries with her friends. Her favorite trips were to South Dakota to see family.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Elaine (Doug) Taylor of Cedar Rapids, Deanna Van den Berghe and her significant other, Mike Mead, of Olathe, Kansas, sons, Ronald (Iola) Ehlers and Rick (Darlene) Ehlers of Tipton, Iowa, Randall (Kim) Ehlers of Bennett, Iowa; her sister, Glady Jacobsen of Clinton, Iowa and her brother, Ray Schult, of Eldora, Iowa; grandchildren, Dawn Anderson, Greg Van den Berghe, Julie Liercke, Melissa Huff, Nicholas Ehlers, Nathan Ehlers and Seth Ehlers; Great grandchildren, Greta and Cole Albaugh, Alison and Lake Anderson, Jacob, Ethan, Caleb, Claire, Isabella and Arian Van den Berghe, Julianna, Aidan and Evan Huff, Langston and Emerson Ehlers, Henry and Norman Ehlers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Kenneth on September 29, 2004), brothers, Chris, Lawrence and Roger Schult.
