Penny Ann (Thomsen) Werling, 68, of Atalissa, IA, died unexpectedly, at her home, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Family and friends are invited to a public graveside service in the Rochester Cemetery on Monday, February 27, 2023, where Penny will be laid to rest at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, family asks that memorials be sent, as they will be forwarded to a local Al-Anon cause.

Penny, daughter of Thomas Thorvald and Barbara Jean (Chapman) Thomsen, was born on Friday, February 11, 1955 in Muscatine, IA. She graduated from Tipton High School, with the Class of 1973. Penny married John Wayne Werling in Rochester, IA on December 8, 1979. They later separated, but would still come together for important family events.
Penny worked for over 30 years at Sheller Globe Corp. (now IAC) in Iowa City. Being a country girl, Penny enjoyed the outdoors. She loved camping, riding horses and spending time with family. She was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
Penny is survived by her daughter, Brandy Marquez of Fruitland, IA; sons, Jeff Heathman (Holly) of Ely, IA and Kyle Werling of Iowa City, IA; sisters, Marie McLeod (Larry) of Central City, IA and Joleen McGee of Newton, IA; brothers, Richard Thomsen (Connie) of Columbus Junction, IA and John Thomsen (Jacie) of Tipton, IA; sister-in-law, Leigh Ann Thomsen, of Moscow, IA; brother-in-law, Bill Ely of Haines City, FL; and grandchildren, Mason, Vaughn & Emmett Marquez, and Bailey, Lane & Cael Heathman. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Barbara Thomsen; sister, Jeanne Ely; brother, David Thomsen; and brother-in-law, Ray McGee.
