Randy, son of Lawrence Francis and Dorothy Annette (Nugent) Bormann was born on Friday, September 29, 1961 in Maquoketa, IA. He graduated with Tipton High School’s Class of 1980 and went on to attend Muscatine Community College. On August 20, 1988, Randy married Mary Elaine Kemmer at the United Methodist Church in Tipton, IA and welcomed sons Jarod and Ryan as his own. On September 24, 1991, Randy and Mary welcomed into the world their daughter, Amelia Marie. On Oct. 28, 1997, they welcomed the youngest daughter, Maggie Jean. His children would later bless him with 6 grandchildren whom he adored. Randy was a member of the United Methodist Church. His involvement in agriculture started young as a 4-H member and officer of the Tipton FFA chapter. He later continued his involvement in many supporting roles including Cedar County Fair Board member and Cedar County Fair sponsor.
Randy made a career out of agriculture as a Sales Rep for the Agrigold seed company for 21 years. But Randy’s true passion in agriculture was no more evident than in livestock. Showing and judging livestock while growing up eventually led to his own flock of sheep and eventually goats that he enjoyed having his kids and grandkids show at their local fairs.
Sports was another area that Randy was passionate about. He spent many years as a volunteer youth coach for his kids, and as they got older, he joined the Tipton Athletic Boosters. If he wasn’t coaching, you would find him in the crowd, rarely ever missing one of his kids’ or grandkids’ events. One sport in particular, wrestling, is where Randy loved to invest the majority of his time. He helped start the youth wrestling program at Tipton in 1991. He helped coach as his kids went through the program. He later became a certified official and officiated tournaments all over the state for 15 years. If he wasn’t at one of his own kids’ or grandkids’ wrestling meets, he was most likely at Carver in Iowa City cheering for the Hawkeyes.
As a pastime, Randy loved hunting and raising his German Shorthair dogs.
Randy was able to make a connection with many he met. From his easy going demeanor to his contagious laughter, he was a father figure to many. Perhaps it was because he, himself, lost his parents at the age of seven, but his willingness to always show up when anyone needed him is what he will be remembered for the most.
Randy is survived by his wife, Mary of Tipton, IA; daughters, Amelia (Jamin) Carlson of Sauk City, WI and Maggie Bormann of Independence, IA; sons, Jarod (Jackie) Bormann of Elkader, IA and Ryan Bormann of Mason City, IA; sisters, Lauri (Dennis) Ford of LaCross, WI, and Kathy (Eric) Schnack of Des Moines, IA; brother, Terry (Susie) Bormann of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Braxton, Tenley, Jace, Bo, Quinn, and Violet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Bormann; and grandparents, Robert and Dorothy McCroskey.
