Reverend David Frederick Hitch

Father David Hitch, 80, of Tipton, died peacefully on Friday, July 16, 2021 while under the care of Country Manor Memory Care of Davenport. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm immediately followed by a Wake Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 10:00 am also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established in Fr. Hitch’s name with the proceeds being donated to Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center, Wheatland, IA. 
Dave (as he liked to be called) son of Peter and Bessie Stinnett Hitch, was born on April 15, 1941 in Fort Madison, Iowa and graduated from Aquinas High School in Fort Madison. He attended Iowa State University, and graduated from St. Ambrose College and the Mount St. Bernard Seminary (Dubuque, IA). 
Dave was ordained into the priesthood in June 1968. He served parishes at St. Paul in Davenport and St. Boniface in Farmington, IA. He completed clinical pastoral education in Washington DC and Rochester, MN. He taught Religious Education classes at Cardinal Stritch High School in Keokuk, IA and was chaplain at UIHC. He served at: St. Joseph in Hills, IA, St. Thomas More in Coralville, IA, St. Joseph in North English, IA, and St. Mary’s Church in Tipton, where he retired in 2014. Dave was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Iowa Hawkeye fan; loved to read, bike, run, camp, and canoe. 
Dave is survived by his siblings; Peter Hitch, Karen Hitch Wilmesmeier and Michael Hitch; 7 nieces; and 3 nephews.
