Wallace “Wally” Gene Axberg, 70, of Tipton, Iowa passed away from complications of Alzheimer/Dementia Disease on September 12, 2023 while under loving care of Cedar Manor and St. Croix Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm with visitation starting at 1:00 pm, all at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, Iowa and will be officiated by Rev. Ron Lashmit. Son of Ivar and Jennie (Hulce) Axberg, Wally was their fifth child born on January 10th, 1953 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Wally graduated from Rhinelander High school in 1971. On June 3rd, 1972 Wally was united in marriage to Carol Jean Taylor in Rhinelander. Wally worked in the steel industry the majority of his career which brought him and his family to many states across the country. After retirement from the steel industry, Wally worked for a short time at HWH (Moscow, Iowa) and Acciona (West Branch, Iowa). Wally enjoyed carpentry, hunting, fishing and spending time at home. He was especially proud of his hunting trips to Alaska.
Wally is survived by his wife Carol, son Josh (Brenda) Axberg (Columbia Falls, Montana), daughter Nicci (Bart) Montgomery (Tipton, Iowa), sister Syvera (Jon) Breivogel (Copper Center, Alaska), brother Ron (Diane) Axberg (Beach Park, Illinois), brother Roger (Jane) Axberg (Wasilla, Alaska); 7 grandchildren, Hailey Axberg (Ryan Hyde), Jordan (Cloie) Axberg, Taylor Axberg, Claire Montgomery, Cody Montgomery, Kyle Montgomery, Brooklyn Montgomery and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ivar and Jennie Axberg, sister Fern Zoncki and his in-laws Claire and Delores Taylor.
