The son of Stanford and Grace (Ferguson) Gregory born April 14, 1929 at Iowa City. He grew up on a farm in Union Valley Township, Cedar County and graduated from the 8th grade of the Union Valley School. He graduated from the West Liberty high school with the Class of May 1946.

In October 1950 he met Yvonne Gadke at HiWay Gardens of Stanwood. On December 6, 1953 they were united in marriage by Rev. In the spring of 1963 they purchased two adjoining farms north of Rochester. They added a son, Robert E. to their family. In 1972 they sold the farms and purchased a farm East of Rochester. He was always know for conservation farming. They planted 99 windbreak trees which he received a soil conservation service award.
