Biography

Laura June Holcomb Cornell was born June 27, 1923 in Lime Springs, Iowa and was the daughter of Emmet H. and Ruth Mead Holcomb. Laura graduated from the Lime Springs High School in 1941. On July 19, 1942, Laura was united in marriage to Alva Lavon Cornell in Bethany, Missouri. Laura worked as a secretary for Bud's Super Value Food Store in Tipton for 8 years. She was a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church, the Tipton Senior Center and enjoyed playing in several Bridge card clubs as well a working with puzzles. Laura was one of the first residents in Tipton Prairie Hills Assisted Living Center.

Laura is survived by her three sons, Larry Cornell of Iowa City, R. Gary Cornell of LeSueur, MN and Jeffrey Cornell of Altoona, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Bryan, Brad, David Zachary and Michael; nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavon, on January 19, 1999; her parents, Emmet and Ruth Holcomb; still-born twin daughters, Connie Rae and Bonnie Kay; sister, Lillian Marie Robb and brother, Wilbur Holcomb.
